how does a 700r4 compair to a th350 in quatermile times
hows it going, im thinking about putting in a b&m th350 transmission instead of renovating my interor(hell the seats im looking at are the same price as the trans) this is partly due to my 700r4 not performing to good, am im going to have to put a 350 in when i drop the 383 strocker in. my guestion is, i will get more hp at the wheels right, due to it spinning freer, and im pretty sure i will get better aceleration due to the gears, but do any of you have any evidence of this happening(faster acceleration/lower et)
thanks

For a maxed out, strip-only car, you can expect the TH350 to give you better times than a TH700 because the gear spacing is slightly better - you're going to taylor your torque converter to your engine powerband, and your rear gears to give you redline rpms as you cross the line. The TH350 will also take more power for a longer life than a strip-only TH700. But, for a strip-only car, you will probably be as fast or faster with a powerglide set up to do the same thing, and the 'glide will last even longer.
For a street driven car, the TH350 is a major mistake. You may do okay at the strip, but in order to have any kind of peace of mind on the street, your 1320 performance will have to suffer. You can't have it both ways. The lower 1st gear and overdrive of the TH700 make the compromises you must make between street & strip much easier to live with.
Summary: For strip-only, the TH350 is the better choice (but 'glide probably even better). For a dual-purpose car, stick with the TH700.

Yeah, if GM had only made that 700r4 2nd gear a 2:1 ratio it would have been an even more interesting tranny.
But you've got to love a 3.06 first gear. Wow! It's like adding another .50 to your rear end ratio compared to almost any other tranny out there
