How much whining is normal with Richmonds?

I bought a complete rear with Richmond 4:10s already installed. The guy said he had a shop install them. I am no fan of Richmond gears since I had a set fail on me recently. I am going to give these a chance but they do have some whining after letting off the gas. It's not bad but a litte louder than the ones I had in it before. I didn't notice any wear on them. I have not added the GM limited slip addictive yet but plan to do so.

Mine are noticeable, but my stereo on low volume easily drowns out the noise.

They shouldn't wine at all, when installed properly, mine don't at all. But I have heard many people say they wine a little.

Whining isn't the fault of gears, it's mis aligned gears from improper installation. Depending on how loud it is, it might not be that big of a deal but they should be pretty much completely quite. I just had a new set of Richmond 3.73's installed & the rear doesn't make a sound. I had a buddy's brother install a set in my 70 Chevelle when I was like 17 or 18 and they whined a good bit, but lasted several years...& I was pretty hard on 'em too!
As for Richmond gears, as far as I know they're the largest & most reputable gear manufacturer so it must say something for their product.

The whining might be due to a solid bearing spacer that the previous owner put in. The Pinion gear uses a crush coller that people replace with a stronger spacer, but since it's more rigid then the coller, it tends to make a little more noise. - Randy

I sure hope they hold up. The whole rear came off a low 12 second ride so I was fearing they were worn. After looking at them, they look to be in good shape. No visible wear.

add the GM posi lube that will help if it dont spend a few bucks to have someone go through your rear to check it out its better to spend a few bucks to find out then spend $$$$ replacing the whole thing
