700R4 shift problems after kit
700R4 shift problems after kit
I rebuilt my transmission and put a superior 700hp shift kit in it. After I adjusted the t.v. cable I drove it to work (about 50 miles) worked fine, firm shift up or down, after about 100 miles the sucker won't upshift unless it has W.O.T. I have tried different adjustments on the cable, but to no avail. I am looking for other suggestions before pulling it back out.

Sounds more to me like the Throttle Valve in the VB is stuck (A Genuine Shift Kit, aka TransGo, FIXES that). You could also have a broken or disconnected TV Cable IF the larger checkball was installed. Do this first: To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal still floored, press the D button and pull the cable casing (the black tube) back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.
Next, if that doesn't help, get a good gauge on it and check and report ALL readings at Idle, Fast Idle and Fast Idle W/Cable pulled full.
