15:41 = 3:23......RIGHT?

I have an old fbody 10 bolt in my back yard that I forgot about. It has 15:41 on the gears, doesn't this translate to 3:23? I'm looking for 3:42s which are 12:41 arent they? Help!

I assume you mean the number of teeth on the gears? If so divide smaller number into bigger number for ratio hence yielding a 2.73 ratio for 15:41

12:41 would be 3.23s.

12.7:41 will be 3.42s.

12:41 is 3.42.

I've never seen 12.7 teeth on a gear.

Well, now that I think about it, there was about .7 left of one tooth once, but I wouldn't recommend that for establishing a gear ratio.

OK, I just ran the numbers again. Here is what my calculator tells me:

41 divided by 3.23 = 12.693498 or 12.7

41 divided by 3.42 = 11.988304 or 12 again!

Sitting Bull: Gears have to have integer (whole numbers) numbers of teeth. Put away your calculator before you hurt someone with it.

41:15 = 2.73
40:13 = 3.08
42:13 = 3.23
41:12 = 3.42
41:11 = 3.73
41:10 = 4.10
41:09 = 4.56

I take it you didn't have steel toe boots on?

The rear I just took out of my car has a fractional number of teeth. It has like 39.7:13 (One tooth is all the way gone, and 2 of the others are about 1/3 or more gone, I plan to post pics)
