If geared properly, a T56 should be as efffective as any other tranny at getting a good launch shouldn't it? Six speeds are just very foreign to me.

Yep, its got four forward gears like any other manual trans, but it has two overdrives. Its first gear is 2.66. A T5 is either 2.75 or 2.95, depending on what engine it came with.

Tremec sells T56s with different ratios. They offer the 2.66, 2.9X, and 3.36 first gears. The 3.36 would really help get a car off the line compared to the T5 with 2.95 first. Tremec only rates the 3.36 T56 at 350 ft. lbs.

Just get 3.73, 3.89, or 4.10 rear and you won't have to worry about it being hard to launch.

Get a good Clutch, 3.73 gears, and 2 weeks of practice. and you will be right there, I could launch my T-56 like a bat out of hell. but then it went out so now im back to 700r4 but I think i oculd still out launch it.
