t5 vss
i have a 92 camaro. it has the tpi 305 with a wc t5. well i blew the tranny up and saving money to fix it again. in the mean time i threw in a non wc t5 from a 84 camaro. but my vss sensor from the wc t5 won't work. and i cant find a vss sensor that will and my car runs like a#$ with out it. can anyone help? has anyone put a non world class in a newer car? and has run into this problem?

Re: t5 vss
If the VSS is not going into the non-WC trans., you may need to change your 7 tooth drive gear to a 9 (or vice versa.)

it will go in but the bolt the holds my vss in there is about a 1/4 off and my gear on my vss is shorter then the mechanical speedometer gear by about an inch.

its going in but i dont think the gear is long enoughto touch were it needs to be because the vss is alot shorter then the mechanical gear i took out of it. it will go in but the bolt to hold in it is a 1/4 inch off.

Re: t5 vss
Hmm. I've had no problem using the mechanical parts in originally VSS-equipped T5s before.
At first, I thought you had the same problem as this:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...eedo-gear.html
But even still, an inch seems extreme. The new metal speedo gear sleeves have a moveable bushing/seal that can be pushed in for shorter gears or left alone for longer gears (I'm pretty sure it's like a 42 tooth 700-R4 gear taking a different sleeve than a 38 tooth, for example but I don't remember the T5 split.
Have you counted the teeth on the 84 non-WC trans. drive gear? And could you post pics of what you have and the tailhousings? Because the FAQ stickies say "some years used the cable driven, mechanical speedo, and others used the electric speedo with a gear driven VSS. Both styles fit exactly the same in the T5 tailshaft housings" and yours contradicts, it would be helpful to figure it out.
I have a theory or two but it's hard to tell...

Re: t5 vss
so my gear and sensor do fit just fine. the problem i'm having is the bold that goes in to hold the sensor in place won't go in because the sensor is in the way the sensor is to fat differant then the world class. i probably just need to go purchase i new sensor but dont know which one to get.
