ok, heres the situation:
im swapping my 82 305 for a 355 of unknown year. i would like to replace my 4 speed stick, with a 5 speed out of a 91 also. the bell housing fits, but i was wondering if there would be a problem with the spot where the shifter comes through the floor, and also whether or not it would fit correctly with my dana 44 rear end. all help is appreciated! thanks

as long as the 5 speed is from a camaro and its just a standard small block and they bolt together, it should all just bolt in. just be aware that T-5's, even v8 models, are notoriously weak. as for it working with a dana 44, i dont see why not, as long as your drive shaft fits and has the correct u-joint bolt up, should be fine.
as for your "unknown year" 355, just check the casting numbers. on the heads, under the valve covers usually in the center between rocker arms, and on the block, drivers side rear transmission shelf. after you have them go to mortec.com and cross reference them with their list. that should tell you when the block and heads were made and what equipment it could or should have. good luck!
