B/W super t-10

so today i picked up my B/W super t-10 4 speed. i need to know a few things. first off the casting numbers:

main case stamp next to inspection cover; WM1462 (my best guess, #s were slighty faded.)
pass side main case stamp; 27N143559
pass side main case casting; 13 04 065 903
tail housing number; 13 04 066 905
manufactured on; 8/5/76 (at least i think thats the date it says, could be something else :S)

it has 3 notches on the input shaft and is a fine spline shaft.

also have a cast iron/steel case for it too that has:

main case stamp next to inspection cover; C922
casting number; T10 1B
manufactured on; H/18/71 (once again unsure, but thats what it says.)

this tranny is going in my 89 rs and will be behind a 454 big block. guy gave me reciepts for the rebuild and a bunch of extra parts, enough for another tranny minus a main shaft pretty much. said it would be good for 500-600 hp (ill be lucky if i crack 500) and with the steel case added to it, a lil more but id have to get it machined a bit for one of the shafts.

neway, just need to know more about this tranny, if i got a good deal and what you guys think of it. also got a Hurst Indy shifter for it and like i said all the extra parts.

Re: B/W super t-10

I'm skeptical of any version of the T-10 holding that kind of power. The 455 Trans Ams used the version with the 2.43:1 first gear, but with nothing more than a set of M&H tires would break them. Yes, Nascar is using "T-10s", but their internals are nothing like what's in your '76 box, and neither is the case.

Re: B/W super t-10

well he said performance rebuilt, ima go pop the cover off and see what it looks like. he showed and ran the 600 hp 427 he had it behind, dyno sheets and all (nasty thing) but he moved to a powerglide for dragging the chevelle he had it in. ran it in it for 150-200 after rebuild, and it all works still. :/

i donno, i think it could handle it, but not an expert. thanks atilla, neone else got some input, maybe origin info?

Re: B/W super t-10

If you personally saw that exact particular trans survive a serious 427, then you might be fine with it behind a mild 454.

Re: B/W super t-10

yea. i dont know if im going to keep it still, would rather have a t-56, but the guy i know who has a good one is only taking cash. i got a guy who may be interested in the t-10, but we have yet to haggle over a price. i was looking on ebay and CL today, and most super t-10s are going for $1000-1500 without linkage, shifters or bellhousings!!!

are people just smoking crack nowadays???

Re: B/W super t-10

many thanks Gary, that was an incredibly helpful site! well it seems that i have a transmission made on December 14th, 1976 and was installed in a Pontiac featuring a F400 L78 from Norwood, OH. originally it came with the following ratios: 1st- 2.43:1, 2nd-1.61:1, 3rd-1.23:1, 4th- 1.00:1, R-2.35:1. the input shaft has three notches however, and with the "W" classification on the tranny, it reads the ratios as: 1st-2.64:1, 2nd-1.75:1, 3rd-1.34:1, 4th-1.00:1, and R-2.55:1.

in my opinion this would be a "wide ratio" transmission. or at least wid-er.

i did some more checking, and the internals that are in it (3 notch pieces) are said to handle 450 ft lbs as standard pieces. so if i could completely identify the gears, who knows they may be even better, but no less i suspect.

over all its still a beasty transmission.

Re: B/W super t-10

Richmond Gear now manufactures the Super T-10, and the 2.43 box is rated at 375 ft-lbs, while the other set you listed is rated at 325 ft-lbs.
