Hey everyone, I'm planning on swapping out my 700r4 for a 5 spd. My engine is a carbed 355 with many upgrades such as cam, intake, and headers so it puts out a lot more power than stock. so I was wondering if a tranny from a 305 would hold up to the power being put to it. Is there anything that I would need to upgrade? I'm already going to replace the clutch with a centerfore clutch but I'm not sure if the gears will be strong enough

Re: T5 swap
Its well know on this forum that if you do put a t5 behinda built up 350 it wont last long.

IMO get the lt1 t-56 and do it right the first time. this way you can drive the car as hard as you want and wont have to worry about wrecking the trans. if you had the t5 in there, you will worry each time you lauch it if the trans is going to blow up.

Re: T5 swap
You could also go with a TKO600. It's a lot like a T-56, just no 5th gear. That's the route I'm going.

Wait, you mean no 6th gear right?

And just wondering why go with 5 instead of 6?

Is the TKO600 a direct bolt in like the t5/t56?

Your application may be different than mine. I just want the simplest swap from auto to manual. The 700r4 and the 93-97 t56 are the same length same number of splines for the input output shafts etc....IIRC

Re: T5 swap
Yeah he's talking about a 5 spd. The only reason I even considered an old t5 s because of cost and I found one pretty cheap. the 93-97 t56 is pretty hard to find for me somehow. at least at a decent price. I suppose I'll just keep an eye out for a t56 and buy all the conversion parts. $$$

I think thats a good idea. In the long run you will be spending more $$$ if you get the t5 blow it up and then have to go with something stronger like a t56.

No, I mean no 5th gear. The ratios of a T56 and a TKO600 are very similar, but with one less gear obviously. The designer opted for a tall over drive ratio, much like a T56. So a TKO would be similar to 1-2-3-4-6 on a T56.

The TKO is mostly bolt on like a T5/T56. It uses a T5 bellhousing for one thing. I'm still gather information on the swap, but it's a tremec tranny so it fits pretty well.

Re: T5 swap
I know G-force transmision has a kit for The world class T-5 that will make it hold up to quite a bit of power. They say like 600ft/lbs of torque. Heres a link http://www.gforcetransmissions.com/default.htm
