I have an '86 iroc with a cable speedo
the tranny is a '93 700r (electronic speedo).
I also have an '86 firebird (parts car) with an electonic speedo.
I thought that I could just replace the speedo gear case with a mechanical one, but it wont work. Does an electronic speedo use a different tail-housing?
Will the one outta the firebird work?
Or will i have to get a new tailhousing?

 

I replaced a 86 mech speedo gear in 700r with an electrical speedo gear out of 90 700r with no problems, direct fit. I did not change tail housing but it is also a direct fit. I am not sure but yours maybe a 460le instead of 700r I think they came out in 93 but not sure.

 

thanks for your help, what happened is that i have the wrong speedo gear (housing). The gears "will" fit as long as you have the correct speedo gear housing
