t-5 conversion hints

im pretty set on converting to a t-5 transmission. My tranny is good knock on wood but id like to have the shifting feel. I like the auto trans a lot. but im going to swap. where can i find a set of clutch brake pedal assembly, a bell housing and etc. Im getting the t-5 from summit racing. i think its more affordable to get a t-5 than to rebuild a a-trans. im going to swap the trans and next year swap the block. i pretty sure you cant but i had question about a 350sbc i cant pass smog with one huh. its cool.

Re: t-5 conversion hints

I remember when I wanted to swap to a T-5 oh so badly, then I saw bigger, and badder options. Tick Performance builds 93-97 LT-1 T-56's to withstand over 700 horsepower, for under 2 grand.

I'll definitely be taking that route when I have a decent amount of cash just sitting around.

ya, thats cool about the t-56. i heard that GM had to put the 700r4 on the 305tpi because the 5.0l was shredding the manual transmissions. its cool, my original question was where to get a clutch and brake assembly, bell housing necessary for the swap. Ill probably call fresno wrecking yard. they might have a donor car there

Re: t-5 conversion hints

True. T-56 is a nice transmission. Much stronger and durable than the t5 dont' get me wrong. But one thing i am wondering is why he thinks emissions won't let him????

Re: t-5 conversion hints

I dont' know to much about emissions since Kansas dont' have emission laws. But Since mostly everything bolts up to the 350 that is off the 305 i shouldn't see why not. Like smog pump ect.... On your other note I believe Summit sells bellhousings and clutch kits together lil pricey for my pockets. If i were you yea go to a junk yard and If it hasn't been popped out already you can get a hole assembly out. I as for me got a pretty cheap donor car firebird that has all the neccessary parts. Look in craigslist for a donor car if you want to go that route. Or check ebay they sell clutch pedal assemblies all the time. thats the main part you cant just buy everything else you can.

Hawks Third Gen Parts.

http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/tr...omponents.aspx

I'm not sure if they will, or currently offer the clutch and brake assembly seperate, but you can ask, they most likely will. They're awesome when it comes to customer service. You'll get a nice straight forward answer, and most likely some help, not just a 1-800 number.

It's a great site, Hawks will grow to become your friend!

Re: t-5 conversion hints

If you look on the for sale forum here there are pedal assemblies for sale occassionally. But it really would be best for you to go strip a donor car of everything you need. The nuts, bolts................ect will all be there and you will understand how it's all put together if your the one that takes the donor car apart. Things like the clutch master reservior, the special "U" shaped slave cylinder mounting bolt are very important and would be easily missed if somone sold you these parts.

Re: t-5 conversion hints

No problem at all. Used a spohn unit to go along with the spohn torque arm I already had.
