G80 is the RPO code that GM used for a limited slip (posi) differential in all of their cars and trucks. I the old '60s and early '70s Chevy muscle cars the G80 code ment that you had the Eaton Posi. In the 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds it means that you have the Auburn, Borg Warner or Governor Lock. In the trucks it means the Governor Lock. The code will be on the RPO decal, probably on the bottom of the console lid or on the back of the spare tire cover. The codes are in alphabetical order.

Thanks but this car that I have has all the codes stripped off of it. There is nothing there to look at. I read somewhere on TG.ORG that the codes would be listed if I took the cover off the pumpkin? Anyways I am sure it is a possi anyways. I know how to check if it is a possi without getting the code. Also I think it should have 3.23 gears if stock right? Thanks.

Re: 1992 Z28 possi?

There are no codes behind the cover. If you remove the cover you can count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. Divide the number on the ring gear by the number on the pinion gear and that's your ratio. The ring gear should have 41 or 42 teeth and the pinion should have 12, 13, 14 or 15. There are other combinations too, but these are the most popular.

Or the limited slip is worn out.

Exactly right, it could just be worn out. There is only one way to be sure of what is in it and that is to remove the cover and look inside.
