Re: 9" options...
So then id need to get and put on the LS1 backing plates first... Then the retainers... Was i supposed to get the retainer plates with my order? (just thinking out loud.)..
Correct me if im wrong, but these would be the steps....
1. Install backing plates
2. Put bearing retainer on axle first, followed by seal, bearing, retaining ring
3. Press them onto the axle shaft
4. Install axles
Sound right?

when i installed mine..the only thing i bolted on was the backing plates
off my car.. i cant, for the life of me, remember if they left 2 holes open for me.. i cleaned mine up Gold anodized factry.. and bolted them on..my rear end was in, under 45 min...thats with me removing my old one. have been looking for a photo of what the thing should look like before you bolt it in.
and the axles should have a hole (mine do) to get to the retainer plat bolts.
UP DATE: beer: i remember installing longer bolts to hold my backing plates on ...I think..Beer.. they go in to the back of the tube flang.. Beer,
do you have your backing plates

Re: 9" options...
A hole in your Axle heads.. nexed to your studs.
this hole lets you slide a socket on the the nuts holding the retaining plates on... just asking.. did not see any in your photos..
maby 35 spline dont come with them?
just makes it sorta tuff getting to the retaing Plate bolts
could get at them from the back.. maby thats it..?
ya only have to get to them when you
take the rear end apart. (Beer)

looking good, if it wasnt covered already, the areas you circles in red, dont pain them. Dont paint the inside of the housing, dont paint inside of the housing ends.
for your question about if you have the correct housing ends for the ls1 discs, they look right if that helps, look just like mine, but that really doesnt mean anything. I assume you told whoever you got it from what brakes you wanted?

Re: 9" options...
I have a couple of questions for you about your 9 inch rear your ordered. I'm thinking about putting a 9 inch of my own.
Does your rear have the same size axles or are they offset. Also is the center section straight on or is it offset? Also is the axle tubes the same size. Thanks

Re: 9" options...
Yes they are offset... length wise one axle is like 31 1/4 and the other 28 3/4... Just a quick measure though. I didnt order the center section, dont know what gears im putting in yet.... It should be offset, I think all 9" rears have offset centers.. Axle tubes same compared to what??? Left side to right side, or to stock rear? The tube diameter is 3".

Re: 9" options...
Is the right axle tube the same size as the left tube? What I'm trying to figure out is does the center section sit in the center of the car. You got same width as the stock rear right?

Re: 9" options...
the the 9" ford is off set..= 1 axle will be longer then the other.
every thing about this rear end is stronger then the other Chevy parts.
stand you axles nexed to ea other. and take a photo.

Re: 9" options...
I know its offset and the axles a different. I assume hes askin about since it is offset, how does that work, driveshaft wise? Will the driveshaft still line up with the trans... Unless im not understandin what hes getting at.

Re: 9" options...
By moving the ring gear to one side (off setting) the yoke is in line with the tranny..

Re: 9" options...
i have the ls1 rear brakes. you will need the complete setup, backing plates, rotors calipers and abutments. the backing plates need to be installed on the axles before you install the bearings on the axles.

Re: 9" options...
Was curious if some one could could enlighten me as to what applications each of these center sections would be used for. More so why (the way they're designed) they'd be ideal for certain applications v.s. others. (Gears ratios included)
Trac lock
Auburn
True trac
Locker
I'd appreciate it if the response could be as detailed as possible, with an example as well..... Say for instance (hypothetically speaking), my car weighs 3000 LBS, 500 HP @ 6500, 488 Ft-Lbs Torque @ 5000, 315 x 17's rear and 275 x 17's front, and a T56 trans. How would i go about choosing the ideal gear and center? What info do i need to consider (use to calculate) in order to blueprint (if you wanna call it that) what will benefit me the most. Id just like to understand (technically and on paper) how and why someone would use a certain setup depending on what the specs and mods are of their build... THanks.
