im really confused :/ posi??

My 87 gta has the rear end from a 2002 camaro ss (10 bolt 3.42 posi with 11 1/2 “ rear disks). Okay, so its susposed to be posi. I was curious since im dropping the tranny and it was all ready off the gound. suposedly if you spin the rear tire and the other one spins same direction, it has limited slip.

I spin mine counter clockwise and the other tire stays stationary.. same with other side. Whats up with this? Does the newer rear ends work differently? Or could the clutches or something be worn out? or does it simply not have posi? thanks

btw im pretty sure the car the diff is out of came with a t56. i know the ones with t56s have this same gear ratio IIRC

If the other wheel turns the opposite direction or doesn't turn at all, the differential is hosed, or it's an open differential. A limited slip or posi rear end should lock and turn both tires in that situation.

It's a zexel-torsen posi carier. Came in all 99-02 z28s and trans ams. I have one in my car and the wheels spin in opposite directons. Just the way it works.

Re: im really confused :/ posi??

i finally found some results on google.. they will leave 2 tire burnouts, but work a little different. Just spinning a tire will make it seem like an open diff. You have to turn the actual driveshaft

Yea if you turn the driveshaft the tires rotate in the same direction.

Re: im really confused :/ posi??

I have the very same rear end(zexel-torsen) in my car, I also thought the LSD unit was shot until i took it for a spin Sad part is now i am feeling it may be on borrowed time having 4.10s and M6 so no more racing till my 8.8 is completed...........
