Whats a good rearend for a swap
I have a 86 camaro, I am putting a big block in it, I need to know what is a good rearend to put in it WITHOUT spending a bunch or changing a bunch of stuff, Thanks

S60 or a 9" is what you are gonna need. Don't waster your money on any 3rd or 4th gen 10 bolts. If you wanna go big block then spend the coin for a good rear.

A 10 bolt can last for a while. I pushed one into the low 11's before finally swapping in a 9". Street cars have also broken them driving on the streets. No diff is indestructible. I managed to catch my 9" before it failed.
There is no cheap swap if you want a stronger diff. The 4th gen diff is basically the same as the third gen. The 90-92 third gens use 28 spline axles the same as the 4th gen. That's about it for increased strength. Your only real choices for a better diff is an aftermarket direct bolt in. You can choose from a 9", 12 bolt or Dana 60. Expect to spend at least $2000 for a complete, ready to bolt in diff but there are ways to do it a little cheaper.
Best advice is to use what you currently have. You're rolling the dice as to when it might fail but if it does, then decide how much it's worth to install something better.

The 10 bolt and 9 bolt third gen rear ends are not strong enough for a big block if you get traction. You are going to need a afgter market 12 boolt, Dana 60 or 9 inch Ford. The 12 bolt and Dana are cheaper and lighter than the 9 inch. The Moser 12 bolt is a very strong rear end and more than enough for most street/strip cars. They start at about $2200 for the third gen. You can get a 9 inch housing and axle package for the thrid gen for about $990 and install a junk yard chunk.
