T56 swap now no start?
Hey guys,
Thanks again for the help even though you were not here I used the sticky's and all the information here to get my swap done.
Now the problem.
After I installed the T56 I just left the automatic shifter hooked up to start and go through the gears. Everything worked fine.
I completed the wiring to get the light and reverse lockout completed and moved the wires to the clutch engage switch. Now the car won't start.
Here is what I have done.
1. Swapped the wires around. no joy
2. Wired the automatic shifter back in. No joy
3. Jumped the starter across...Turns over and starts no problem with key on.
Does the shifter ingnition lock cable have anything to do with anything?
Is there anyway I can apply power or complete a circuit with the two neutral safety wires without using the clutch or the shifter?
Thanks in advance you are a wealth of knowledge.

You should wire the two neutral safety wires to the clutch pedal. You can jumper them to test the install, but you shouldn't rely on it as someone can get killed..

Can you pop the rear hatch using the console button with the purple/green wires jumped together? If not, then you still have something crossed.
Also there should be Black/W and Orange/B wires (Pins A and B from the Automatic shifter) that need to be left open and connect to the ECM.

What do the purple and green wires go to? Is the purple wire the same one on the starter?

Purple goes to Starter Solenoid, and Green goes to Starter Relay.

I will try and apply power this week. If I wire the wires directly to each other (jumper) it should bypass the start relay correct?

No, the starter relay is between the Ign and the Auto-shifter. The relay also gets fed by the VATS.

Re: T56 swap now no start?
Anyone had a similiar issue to this? Father-in-law has been in the hospital all week so will work on the car this weekend but do you think its a vats? When you have a VATS issue does the fuel pump and everything still come on?

Your neutral safey switch might be faulty.
Have you tried shorting the two wires that go to the switch together (by touching them) and then cranking?

The 2 fattest wires at the top of the wiring thing on your shifter. Purple and Yellow i think.
Before these would switch closed when your shifter was in PARK or in NEUTRAL, now they plug into your clutch pedal switch (HUGE black button at the top of the clutch pedal rod). SO when the clutch is depressed (and only when its depressed) can you crank.

Read from post #145 on, i have lots of pictures there.
The next two wires are reverse. (Green and Blue on shifter, and Green and Purple on connector for me).

Re: T56 swap now no start?
Online,
Yes have even hard wired the two top wires together directly and still no joy. I am going to put a remote start on for now and get it to San angelo and break it down again. will let you know what I find. Is there a fuse for nuetral safety by the way?
