700R4 A/T; 1-2 shift @ 22mph
well I bought a performance Tranny, suitable of being able to handle 500+ HP... Torque Converter crapped out and I ended up replacing just the torque converter even though I was advised to rebuild tranny as well... a few months after that, my tranny would not hit its first shift till 22mph, normally it would shift at 12mph, then again 22mph... also I noticed that when I was going at around 70 mph, I would be somewhere between 3500-4000 K RPM.... which led me to believe the tranny was not engaging in overdrive... all this happens while I am in OverDrive, what could cause this? Am I looking at a rebuild? Could I possibly need the valve body checked for debris? BTW I did adjust the TV Cable, I pulled into a gas station and adjusted it... the only thing I can think of is replacing the cable with an OEM GM cable, as the one I have I got at Autozone, since it was the only autoparts store that had it locally...

Is the car going into 4th gear? You might just need a new Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, its what controls the Torque converter locking up.

after much reading, looks like my governor is plugged with debris, what I'm guessing from my torque converter, I'll probably end up replacing it with another corvette governor as is currently installed, or might just clean it, don't know... will post once I get the work done on it...

Im assuming since you didn't rebuild you at least flushed the trans, lines and radiator and replaced the filter? otherwise sounds like you have amoney pit going

I would just clean the governor, if you replace it you may have to adjust springs and weights to get the shifts like you had them before. it should clean up, unless damaged. Also, take off you pan, clean the whole trans, change filter, flush out whole thing, otherwise you'll be back in same situation again (same idea as 8upaford had). I would take convertor off and take it down and have it proffesionally flushed and then do same with trans. you probably have debris all in that thing. good luck to you.
