Try to solve this one boys.
Ok got a 1989 Trans am with a 5.7/700r4 combo thats being a major PITA.
In drive or overdrive, you can mash the throttle yet the rps will only climb to about ~2600 SLOWLY and no higher.
However, if I manual put the car in first, itll rev/pull all the way up the tach, same as if I put it in 2nd. Once I bump it up into drive though, I get nothing over about 2600 rpms.
If I start out in drive and step on it, it will shift threw all the gears at pretty low speeds but itll never take off quick or go over 2600 rpms like I said.
Btw the car has brand new..
cap/rotor
plugs/plug wires
ignition coil
ignition module
ignition coil pick-up
fuel injectors

Re: Try to solve this one boys.
hmmm kinda odd.
things i would check bc u said nothing about it.
did you change the TV cable adjustment? the tv controls the shift points of the trans, having it too tight will cause the trans to shift way early and u have no control over that. too lose and the trans wont shift or shift very late and be more of a SMACK shift than a regular shift. Verify that the TV cable is adjusted properly, read through this article and then follow the steps to the LETTER! and your TV will be set properly. then go for a test run.
heres the article
http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php
i dnt see how the trans will shift to any RPM in manual 1-2 but not in Drive. Since the stock trans(since i see no mods under your little list) the stock trans will shift manually in 1-2-3 but not at your command, basiaclly the trans will shift itself outa 1 once u get to a certain RPM... a shift kit like a transgo will allow u full manual control which gives u the ability to shift at ANY rpm as well as downshift.
your issue could be a bunch of things.... since all of your upgrades have to do with ignition. that could also be the cultprit. the control module controls RPM and spark, if the one you have is defective it will reak havock on your engine and performance, a faulty control module will casue irradic idling, missfires, RPM ignition issues, and ultimatly a car that wont start. if you have the stock one still and its still good i would throw it in and see if it helps.
1.) set the TV cable correctly
2.) drive it and see if anythings changed
3.) change out the control module
4.) drive it and check for changes.
what ignition products did u use? stock replacement? aftermarket? wat did u set plug gap too? I just hope u didnt fry the ECM or something when doing the ignition. but i think your problem is either ignition related or trans related since they are the only things that would affect your problem

Re: Try to solve this one boys.
ok if thats the case and this was a pre existing problem i would def assume its the trans. your prob gona have to drop the pan and pull the VB. my guess would be sticking valves or a bad seleniod as well. not sure what the ALDL is gona tell u since when i had mine hooked up the ECM didnt kno what the hell my trans was doing lol... i would lock up the converter in 4th and it would say that the converter is not engaged. and when it wasnt locked up it would say engaged.
was it a stock replacement TV cable or an aftermarket like lokar or something?
