How can i make my 700r4 handle the nitrous......help please

ok i have a 90 350tpi car that is a strong running car

love the car and very impressed with it...... ive got it very solid into the 8s in 1/8th with some basic bolt ons and i wanted more....;

i just installed a 5151 NOS kit and finally sprayed it the first time last night and man am i hooked...

the car has always shifted great with out slipping

that is untill i sprayed it.... it goes threw 1st so fast and into 2nd that it makes the tranny shift kinda soft so i quit spraying threw the shifts...

i want to build the spare tranny i have and have it ready to go but was just wondering on advice for the longevity of a built 700r4 and what kind of parts need to be aquired to make it hold.......

car is a 350 now and ill be spraying 100-175 shot but in future it will be getting a 6.0 so i want the tranny to be done thanks

i had a rebuilt/built/shift kitted 700r4 in my 89 k5 blazer and it handled anything i threw at it was putting around* 350 - 400 at the crank estimated but it never even so much as studdered and this was all while turning 35x15.50s in the mud IMHO if built right a 700r4 can be a great trans

If your 700R4 is still stock, he shifts are basically too slow from the factory & it can't engage the next gear after shifting. A quicker shift with the rebuild/valve body will certainly help.

i agree with all of the above. i also recomend a beast sun shell from tci. never a bad idea and it really is about the only hard part that ever brakes. and it brakes when you start making a hard 1-2 shift.

personaly if i was you i would ditch the 700 for a th350 or 400, i have grenaded 4 700s and i dont trust them as far as i can throw one, i know you asked about a 700 but i think for a drag car on spray you would be better of with a 3spd auto

When setup correctly the 700R4 will hold up fine. I do not make the shifts hard as this is not the way to build them. Call me with your questions 909 795-1876 anytime in the afternoon or evening PST. Dana
