Can someone with a T56 do me a HUGE favor?

Can you measure how thick the factory mid-plate (adapter plate) is? I was originally under the assumption that the adapter plate used to mount an LS T56 took the place of the factory one, now I learned that it is used with it. So I need to see if the factory LS or LT adapter plate is the same thickness as my Cobra plate.

All T56 midplates are the same length, about 2" (2.10" to be exact). The 4-bolt muncie/T5/Saginaw adaptor plate is 0.5" thick.

You're basically building an Aftermarket version of the T56 as described here:
http://www.sallee-chevrolet.com/Borg.../bwt56pics.cfm

While you have the trans, you should also verify it's a 2.66:1 1st gear unit, and not the 2.97:1 version.

Thanks for the info. I will check the first gear later today.

Re: Can someone with a T56 do me a HUGE favor?

Ok, I did verify that first gear is 2.66:1

I was also worried that the bolt pattern on the Cobra adapter plate was different than the GM one but there not. They do use the same bolt pattern.

I also want to say that thegearbox.org has been extremely helpfull. I have emailed them 4 times now and never have had to wait long to get a response. I even emailed them last night expecting a response on Monday morning. Nope. I just checked my email and they had already responded. And their not even open today!

Good deal.. I've worked on 4-5 dozen GM/Viper T56s, but never had the opportunity to tear into a Ford unit.

I buy 99% of my Tremec parts from thegearbox, can't recommend them enough.. They can even piece parts and get just about any tremec parts (T5, T56, etc.) available also, not just the ones listed on their website.

Re: Can someone with a T56 do me a HUGE favor?

Ok, I have one last favor (I think this is my last ) to ask if someone would be so kind. Can you measure the distance between bolts for the shifter? On mine it is 3.5" center to center on the bolts going from the back of the trans to the front. I've looked at a bunch of pictures trying to find out if the Mustang tailshaft has a different shifter bolt pattern than the Chevy's and in a lot of the pictures it looks like it does. The Chevy pattern looks a lot longer. I need to find out if I can use a stock Mustange shifter or if I need to make a hybrid shifter between the Mustang base and a Camaro stick. Its not that big a deal if I have to as I have the base of the Mustang one already and can make the stick for it. I'll worry about a good shifter down the road. I just want to get this running for now. Thanks again.

The Mustang T56 shares a shifter setup with the GM T5. It's different than a F-body T56 which is rectangular.

Ok. I thought it was different than the F-body T56. Didnt know it was the same as the T5 though. That helps. Thank you.

Actually using this trans is making things easier. Because I'm using the adapter plate, I can use the bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, clutch master cylinger, clutch slave cylinder, clutch fork, pedal assembly, and shifter all for a 91 Camaro and dont have to modiffy any of the hydraulics like the people using a LT T56.
