Auto to T56 swap - wants to die when coming to a stop
I just finished swapping out my 700r4 for a t56 in my 89 GTA and now when I hit the clutch when coming to a stop the idle will drop to about 400rpm (it has even died a couple times) then bounce up to about 1500rpm and then gradually settle to normal. It does have a a custom chip for my 383 which thinks it is still an automatic. I have read that most people don't have a problem with an Auto chip, but I supose it is possible. I don't have the equipment to burn my own chips so I hope there is a fix without getting into that. I did relearn the TPS and Idle speed which helped a little but it still isn't right. If anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate hearing them.
Anyone thinking of doing this swap, go for it, it's a blast.

Is the speedometer hooked up? I dont have any first hand expierence with this but while doing research for my T56 swap I read several threads where people stated that the computer needs to see the speedometer signal and if it doesnt then the motor will die while coming to a stop.

You need the chip reprogrammed for a Manual transmission.. The idle controls/settings are very different .

I don't have the speedo working yet, I'm working out some issues with the dakota digital box, I think the spped sensor in the trans might be bad. I thought that might be part of the problem, I guess Ill see if it helps when that is finished.
85miketpi- I figured I might have to get the chip reprogramed. I see you have a t56 swap, did you drive your car with an auto tune after the swap?

You'll need the Speedo/VSS working before the ECM can make changes.
No, I never drove the T56 with an Automatic tune, I had the Manual tune all ready to
go before I even started the T56 swap... ;-)

I got the speedo working and it still does the same thing, oh well, I guess I need to get a manual tune. Actually I think Im going to convert to a megasquirt ecm since I plan on going turbo anyway. Thanks for you input guys.
