Will not downshift

My 88 trans will not downshift out of any gear when I hit the gas. It will do it when I slow down, but not when I put the gas through the floor. It doesnt unlock the converter either.

I just had the trans in for a rebuild and a new converter. The lockup clutch was shot and the trans was a little wore out. It did downshift prior to the rebuild, but the lockup did not work.

Sometimes the 1-2 shift is really hard as well. Throttle doesn't affect shift points.

This is getting frustrating and I don't really want to take it to a shop to let them "troubleshoot" for six hours.

Re: Will not downshift

I hate to sound so cliche here but is your TV cable adjusted properly cause that's what it sound like.

The last 700R4 I had behaved exactly the same way because my dumbass didn't adjust it right and I didn't find out til 3 months later when I lost every forward gear.

EDIT: Nevermind I just read that you have a FMVB. You're better off haing someone more experienced with trannies chime in.

Re: Will not downshift

This is in a different vehicle. I suppose that would be important info. Its an 88 700r4. I have adjusted the schize out of the cable, also had an experienced tech do it.
