Yesterday i was driving my bird around and no problem so far but i stopped at a gas station and when i started her up again my speedometer dont work no more.

What could be the problem?

All the gauges are on one fuse. If that fuse went, you'd know it. As for the gauge itself it could be the sending unit. It could be a short or a broken electrical wire, a broken speedometer gear. (Technically possible I suppose, but unlikely.) It could also be a problem with the cluster, etc.

Aha ok

Will take a closer look tomorrow. check some wires behind the dash tomorrow.
When i hit a roadbump the speedometer jumps up to. Feels like its a wire problem. Like when i hit a bump it got contact or something.

Excuse my bad english

There is a connection that comes up from the transmission/speedo gear to the VSS. That's what I'd check first.

Little update

Havent had time to check vss yet but i noticed that its not only the speedometer "needle" that doesent work.

Its the whole thing "tripmeter, km meter and speed" so its the whole thing thats dead.

Will check vss under the car today.

Re: Speedometer firebird 1987
Was under the car before but couldnt find any obvious brakes on cables or anything.

Tried to get the dash out but couldnt get it out. Anyone with a guide for that?
The left part of the speedometer wouldnt come out and i didnt want to pull incase i brake anything. so a guide would be helpful.

Took all panels down even the top one "where the speakers are"

Your 86 Camaro is mechanical. Check the following thread for possible fixes:

Re: Speedometer firebird 1987
i replaced the driven gear, the drive gear appears to be in great shape, when i spin the end with my hand the speedometer will get to 15mph, i have already taken the cable out and regreased it.
quite frustrated

Re: Speedometer firebird 1987
i think that my gear might not be seating correctly into the tailshaft, just a guess though. so i put the gear in 7 different times, each time thinking that i had solved all of my problems and that life was great, untill i go to test it and the speedo doesnt even bounce.
