Re: Helpful T56 Info!

Are you talking about using an LT1 tranny mated to an LS engine?

Id like to see that, t56 is my next endeavor, im also confused on how im gonna get a speedo working without machining my t56 for a cable, I want to use aftermarket electric gauges and ill have a 7730 ecm in with the vss buffer box in there, how does the lt trans send the speed signal? Re: Helpful T56 Info!

Ok it took me a while to dig up the part numbers but for the bellhousing

mcl-8710-15

and associated throwout bearing

mcl-1400-22

This was NOT cheap but it's very very nice and works extremely well...

Not that I'm aware. I imagine you may be able to do so with a t-5 bellhousing but I'm not sure of the dimensional differences if any.

Yes, the T-56 has a VSS.

I should have read your post better.

The LT-1 T-56 uses a pull style clutch your T-5 slave cylinder is st up to actuate a standard push style clutch.

You could use your LT-1 bellhousing with the throw out bearing i mentioned above with a T-5 clutch.

If you wish to retain the pull style clutch you will have to use all LT-1 parts.

The T-56 does not require electronic controls for its general operations.

However there are a few considerations:

Is your speedometer electrically or mechanically controlled?
If electrical, you will need to use a VSS which the T-56 is ready for. If mechanical you will either need to run a converter box or have the tail housing machined for the cable.

The other is the reverse lockout. The T-56 uses a solenoid to prevent the shifter from going into reverse above about 10mph. Lots of people have lots of bad ways to get around this without the proper ECM. In my opinion and best, and most factory way, is to use the Samoco controller box, which unlocks reverse below 10mph, just like factory.

You will need a conversion flywheel since you have a 2pc rms engine. I think centerforce makes one.

Thats the one. Good move on the T-56. You will love it.

You will also need:

crossmember
brake/clutch pedal
clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder
shifter
5spd console plate

Re: Helpful T56 Info!

im going to get the spohn crossmember. does it matter on the master/ slave cylinders? the shifter i will probably go with a short throw one. as far as the 5 speed console, im having my already custom center console fitted for the t56.
