Re: 88 t-5 trans fluid?
ATF was factory but lots of folks including a EX lead GM engineere says to use straight 30W oil [like he does]. ATF was done for MPG but is to thin but 80-90 is way to thick. Straigth 30W will flow well but offers better protection.

Re: 88 t-5 trans fluid?
I talked to Hanlon Motorsports 3 or 4 times during my T5 rebuild. Sure they sell Redline, and i realize the brand name doesn't necessarily make it better...
....but...he did say without a doubt that any brand synthetic dex/mercon was the way to go. Is that the ONLY way to go? Of course not. I've learned there isn't always one best answer, and everyone has an opinion, but I doubt Hanlon has fuel economy in mind.

Bob Hanlon told me that if it is a WC transmission, using anything other than ATF will be bad for the blocker rings.
On NWC, he still recommends ATF, but you can use other lubricants without hurting the transmission.
