Different sppedo gears and housings?

I just bought an 88 RS 2.8 V6 with a 700R4. This car has sat for approximately 5 years on the side of the PO house.

The speedometer didn't work so I pulled the cable from the transmission and the cable is seized. This car has two cable, one from the dash and through the firewall and attaches to the other which is routed to the transmission. The cable to the transmission is the one that is seized. The drive gear in the transmission is also wobbled out from the cable and is now round. I pulled the gear out of the transmission and both of the gears look good and rotate fine, I think the cable seizing is what destroyed the shaft of the gear. The gear in my transmission has a metal shaft, the only replacement gear I found, which was on eBay, is a totally plastic gear and shaft. The plastic gear's shaft is slightly larger and longer than the metal shaft and will not fit into the housing.
Does anyone know where to get a 41 tooth gear with a metal shaft that will fit into my original housing or where I can get a housing the will fit my plastic gear? I will be searching local junkyards and calling a few other transmission shops Monday morning but I thought I would post this to see what the experts have to say, it is well over 100 degrees outside and I would rather not be out in it try to get underneath junk cars if I can help it.

This car is going to be my daughter's daily driver so as soon as the speedometer is fixed she can drive it and leave my wife's car alone so my wife can leave my truck alone. There are several other issues to deal with but at least with a working speedo my daughter can start driving it and she is looking forward to it!

Thanks!
