Anyone else have issues with trans mounts going bad every year. I have had this 91 drop top for about 5 years now, and every year I have had to replace trans mounts. This isnt some super high hp 305, just a basically stock motor with as many performance bolt ons as I could find. This trans is pretty much on its way out, and the motor is being replaced as soon as its cool enough to open the garage doors again. My concern is that once the new 350 is dropped in, and the trans is rebuilt, the car will be pushing twice as much hp, and tourqe. Seems to me the mounts will fail even sooner. The little 305 is a very tourqey motor, but come on..every year??? I checked the threads on the trans, and they are not stripped. I have bought the so called best mounts I could find. Even had a trans shop do the work once. Same thing, the back mounts loosen up, and wear away to nothing. Yes ive used locktite, and lockwashers. Any thoughts here? I dont want to break something after doing all this work.

 

get a torque arm setup that relocates the front of the arm to something other than the tail of the trans.

 

I'd check to see if the mount is under stress first then I would check the motor mounts to see if they are bad.

 

Put in a poly one, problem solved.

 

I've torn 2 poly mounts due to bad motor mounts so problem is not neccesarily solved
