Socket stuck inside of pilot bearing in engine

I was searching around for methods on removing pilot bearings since I would be using a 700R4. Well found one that was pretty straight forward and required normal household tools. So I start driving the socket in there with an extension and go to pull the extension out and it did just that. Socket is flush inside the pilot bearing. I can take the extension, put it back on the socket and put a ratchet on it and it turns inside the bearing with a little force, but it does. Not coming out though. What can I do to get this thing out!! I've heard of a tap or a easy out? Somebody help!!!

If the socket is turning, a tap/easy out probably won't work. You might insert a right-angled pick and attempt to wiggle the socket free.

There's always the old trick of packing it FULL of grease, then hammering an extension into the socket. That'll drive the socket out.

An extension that will go through the inside of the socket to the back of the crank or an extension that will fit into the socket?

Re: Socket stuck inside of pilot bearing in engine

A locking extension (that locks the button out so that the socket cannot come off) seems like something to try.

The correct size for the socket, otherwise it won't work. You may have to top off the grease a few times.

Got the socket out!!! Took a screw and beat it into the socket, took a long pry bar and got behind the bolt head and started prying. Popped right out
