1989 Camaro Project

Okay so I have a 89 RS 2.8L V6, And long story short, my baby is sitting 50 miles from my house because of a shot trans, Its an automatic 700r4 that currently slides freely from park to 1st gear, which probably means it has to be rebuilt. But before I do that, I need to know my options.

I've always planed to eventualy swap the V6 with a V8, I think a 400 has a bellhousing that fits both, So what trans has a belhousing to fit both a V8 and V6?

A friend of mine that I happen to be helping move this weekend, has a Turbo 350 trans from a Monte Carlo V6 that shes willing to give me for nothing, Any good?

Under a tight budget at the moment, is it a better idea to just keep the 700?

Any other ideas?

Thanks~

I love my Camaro, so the quicker I get on the road the better... now if you'll excuse me, I need to start a new thread for a coolant leak.

What do you mean it "slides free from park to 1st"? You mean the shifter doesn't seem to change anything? If so, have you looked at the shifter cable? The gears are changed by a shifter cable, not by the actual shifter **** itself - the **** just moves a cable. Might just need a new shifter cable - a cheap easy fix!
