Clutch pedal in- trans in gear- whizzing/rubbing sound. No bueno.

Alright guys, did the T5 swap a few hundred miles ago. The first few days had no problems whatsoever. Then every once in awhile, when I would depress the clutch and engage either 1st or reverse, I get a slight whizzing or rubbing sound. Now the trans was in gear, and I wasn't always moving, so I figure it's not the trans because as far as I can think it shouldn't have had anything moving at that point. Anyhow, I found that I could keep the pedal depressed, pop the trans into neutral, and then back into gear and all was well. I was content with this being one of the beauties of an older car!!!!

...but it started happening more often. Same conditions though. Pedal depressed, trans in 1 or R. Typically as soon as I'd start to release, it'd go away, but it started getting to where the clutch would need to be almost fully engaged before the sound would go away. ...and I would also start to get the sound, just for a second, but while engaging 2nd and sometimes even 3rd.

Yesterday, while backing into my driveway, it got worse. Again, clutch pedal in, car in R. I popped it into neutral real quick, and it wouldn't go back into gear. tried first, same thing. Neutral was quiet, but as soon as I started to engage the gears, the sound would come back. At this point it was kinda behaving like a bad synchro, but I know it's not because most of the time, the trans will be already in the desired gear, and it'll still make the same noise. Anyhow, after sitting there for a few seconds, trans in neutral and pedal out, I tried again and R engaged perfectly with no issues.

I'm no expert, but the only thing I can think of is the pilot bearing. That would explain why it's only doing it with the pedal in. As soon as the trans tries to go into gear, (essentially stopping the input shaft) the friction on the pilot would increase, and so does my noise. could that friction at the pilot bearing be enough to spin the transmissioin? -enough to keep it from engaging the gears? It's hard to explain, but I can't imagine this noise coming from that small bushing. None the less, I've got no other ideas. I suppose I'll have to pull everything to find out, and at the point, either way, might as well replace it all.

Any thoughts??? Would the TO bearing cause this? Maybe the clutch isn't fully disengaging? That doesn't explain the sound though. Hmmm. Doh, I thought the T5 would be LESS complicated than the 700r4!!!!!!
