700r4 Shifting Problems
I Have a Hughes 700r4 Tranny. I was talked into buying a new tranny rather than having mine rebuilt for warrenty reasons. First week i had it on the road it burnt up. The TV cable wasnt set correctly and i found out the problem was that Hughes puts on a universal length TV cable. Now that i know that and i had the tranny rebuilt it still isnt shifting the way it should.
When i leave it in gear and hit WOT it shifts great from 1-2. Once its in second it just goes to redline untill i get off the gas then it will shift.
If i Manually shift it it does the same thing. It will not go from 2-3 at WOT. But when im not at WOT and just driving in everyday use everything shifts great. I dont have any problems getting in and out of any gear.
Please anyone....shed a little light on this problem for me. Thanks for your time.

If you have the TV cable set tight at WOT, then the 3-4 clutch pack is most likely the issue here. Hughes should back this up with their warranty.

Re: 700r4 Shifting Problems
They were going to warranty it but I had to pay the shipping. And I'm from Ohio and they are in Arizona. The shipping was more than it cost to have it rebuilt locally. It's rebuilt now and is fine under normal driving conditions. As I said it won't shift into third at WOT so I want to try changing the tv cable first. They have a universal length cable on it I believe it's 60'. What I want to find out is what the stock length should be. I have seen cables for sale in a variety of lengths what is the right length for a carborated 350 1986 trans am?
