I search, and din't quite see something that fell in line with this question...

I'm looking at buying a 91 RS with the 305 and 700r4. The current owner is the second owner, and I actually know the guy who had it before him.

Other than a paint job that has begun to fail and the typical worn out interior, everything seems to be fine and the car will start and is drivable accord to the owner. The only problem is the current owner claims that the reverse doesn't work because he pull over his sidewalk one day after the City had installed it and it bottomed out and now the car won't go in reverse.... I don't know if that means it physcially won't shift in reverse or if it goes into reverse and does nothing, but that was the only problem he knew of as far as the tranny.

Anyone have any clue as to what that might be? I actually want this car (500 bucks) for a project car (you know, a 350 engine, carbed, not electronics.. ) but the reverse thing is buggying me... because i found an 84 berlinetta for 200 bucks missing a motor and tranny, so i thought I could put the motor and tranny out of the 91 into the 84, and project out the 91 like I want and I would have a 84 to restore back to stock and a 91 to screw with.

 

Well, I got the car, I drove it around the block before I bought it and the reverse didn't work but I could feel the car shift through all four forward gears, however, on the drive home, if I tried to stab the gas, the car would rev up and downshift and act like it was in neutral, so as I figured, the tranny is problably going to go when the 350 I found goes in...
