Will a 9 bolt survive the LS1?

Swapping a 2000 LS1 this winter... I have a borg warner 9 bolt 3.08:1 lsd from an 85 camaro in my 91 z28 vert... I will have the 4L60E. Will it handle the ls1? I saw Bluzees video last week with the ten bolt destruction and now im concerned for my own rear end... Searched.

should hold up just fine. 9bolt is a tad stronger than the 10bolt, and you have an auto which reduces shock load to the rear end.

Broke the pinion teeth on my (100 000 mile) 9 bolt on my 1st ever 12 second pass. It had previously survived about a 100 13 second runs before that.

good condition should hold but you never know. I've been 9's at over 140 with 800+ hp on my stock 10 bolt but broke my 9 bolt BW rear on a high 13 second pass with a 1.7x 60 foot with my bolt on TPI L98 I've been 1.41, 1.45, and 1.49 with many many 1.5's 60's on the 4th gen 10 bolt.

On street tires you should be fine. HP doesn't break parts, traction does.

If you want it to last, add a steel cap to the ring gear side, reset the backlash to the minimum, use oem posi fluid, and use Lubrication Engineers rear end oil. Add magnets where possible. DO NOT make the transmission shift too firm at any throttle opening. That will help with rear end gear life.

Re: Will a 9 bolt survive the LS1?

Seeing as you will be running an automatic transmission I see no problems. If you don't have a TA rear cover I would recommend that you get one to add a little strength.

I know there is not much for a nine bolt, but try the different rear end builders to see if one is available.

Re: Will a 9 bolt survive the LS1?

Skinny Z has posted a link to the one I bought. I also bought the stud kit.

With my new motor it just over powers the tires in 2nd gear and forget 1st gear. I had KevinZ28 tune my new motor for driveability yesterday and will wait for the dyno to tune the WOT portion. Just useless and dangerous to try and do it on the city streets. By the way Kevin did a real good job. Hard to believe that the motor idles this nicely at 775rpm. This car could easily be a daily driver as it has the A/C, cruise control and all the creature comforts that it came with from the factory.

Re: Will a 9 bolt survive the LS1?

Would there be any concern for the axleshafts? Is replacing them with Moly 'shafts recommended? Does anyone know of axleshafts for the BW nine bolt?
