early third generation 4-speed
early third generation 4-speed
Hello,
I am currently working on a 72' camaro but I picked up a 4-speed borg warner for it and i have been told it is from an early third gen camaro. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about them or if anyone had some extra parts from one, for instance the shifter. Any help will be greatly appreciated. The numbers on the tranny are:side cover G-30-81 13-04-097-901
right side 13-04-065-903 FpC4
tail housing 3-04-066-906 under b/w logo

That's not an '82 bellhousing.
I don't think that's an '82 tailhousing on the trans. either.

I don't know what bellhousing it is i'm curious about the trans itself because i need a shifter for it, I bought one from hurst and its the wrong one, There doesn't seem to be a correct one listed anywhere. I'm trying to see if anyone knows anything specific about these transmissions so I can hopefully find some parts for it.

It's definitely not for a 3rd gen. It doesn't have the torque arm mount. None of that stuff is for a 3rd gen.
I don't recall what a 2nd gen crossmember looked like, it's been 25 years since I last owned one.
When you tried putting the shifter on it, what "installation kit" were you using? (the Hurst won't bolt onto that stock bracket, and won't work with the stock rods, those things along with a handle being the things that make up the "kit") The Hurst bracket bolts to the driver's side of the extension housing, not the pass side like that stock one.
I don't know of T-10s ever coming in any trucks at all ever. But that doesn't mean it wasn't in one last, replacing the POS Saginaw that would have come in the truck; or that somebody didn't put a truck BH into something else.
You can spot a truck BH from about a mile away: does the clutch gear bearing retainer (the front-most housing piece of the trans) fit tight inside the BH hole, or is there about a 3/16" gap all the way around? Truck BHs have the big hole, car transmissions have the smaller OD clutch gear bearing retainer.
A 2nd gen Camaro BH was aluminum. At least, all the ones I ever had were.
Shaft length is the same on all the T-10s AFAIK. Never seen one that was any different from what's in the pic. But I've only built a couple dozen of them over the years so there might be some variant out there I've never come across.
There is no wisdom or ID in those numbers you posted. They are nothing but the casting #s of the case parts. They would tell us that it's a GM case, is all.
Looks like the small (same as T-350) tail shaft, not the large one on the "Super" T-10 (same as the T-400).
What are the gear ratios?
