Hello,
I've been reading through multiple posts on this topic and trying to make sense of all of them. Anyone that has advice on a 700R4 not shifting to third under WOT is greatly appreciated!!!
I recently put a new 350 into my '85 Camaro. With the rebuild, I put a TCI Breakaway Torque Converter. I also put a new 600 CFM Edelbrock carb in place of the 500 CFM Carb that was on before. Before making these changes, at the drag strip, the car would shift great between 2-3 under WOT. Now the car will shift from 1-2 at 5,000, but will go beyond 6,500 and not shift to third unless I let off the throttle.
Reading the forums, the most common topic I've seen is the TV Cable and it's length. I did the TV Cable self-adjustment and under normal street driving the car shifts as TCI recommends:
1-2…………………15-20 MPH
2-3…………………25-30 MPH
3-4…………………40-45 MPH
Even with the TV Cable self-adjustment, the car will still not shift to 3rd unless I let off the throttle. I have tried to make further adjustments to lengthen/shorten the cable, however that only seems to adjust the shift point from 1-2.
I've read on various forums that other ways to fix the shifting problem include: installing a Corvette Servo, Governor Recalibration Kit, Value Body, or even rebuilding the transmission completely. I had the transmission rebuilt last spring and had a shift kit and Corvette Servo put into it during the rebuild. I'm pretty confident the internal parts are still working properly so rebuilding doesn't seem to be a likely solution.
I'm curious if anyone has had any luck with getting the car to shift to 3rd by installing the Governor Recalibration Kit, Value Body, or other parts? Also, TCI sells a constant pressure value body. Has anyone installed that as a fix to this problem and had success?
Some other things to note are that I have the Geometry Corrector installed with my Edelbrock Carb. Thanks for you're help!!!

Why dont you take it the place that rebuilt your transmission and tell them what you did and see if they can diagnose it. Could be a bad governor. Could be in internal leak in the transmission losing fluid pressure. Cant hurt to call them or take the car to them and see what they think.
If the 2-3 WOT shift does not occur at 5,000 rpm with the TV cable adjusted correctly, then most likely the 3-4 clutch pack is the problem here of not coming on. This can be solved if the 3-4 clutches are still in good shape. Add the Corvette servo with the larger boost valves, and modify the separator plate feed hole sizes. The modified TransGo Shift kit that I carry will do this. Have you had the pan off of this to see what is on the bottom of the pan away from the magnet?
