There isn't enough difference between 3.27 and 3.23 gears to worry about. Posi and Limited Slip are different terms for the same thing. 3.2x gears will give better acceleration from a stop, but you'll lose top end and potentially fuel economy.

I wouldn't swap a 10 bolt from a 82 Trans Am into anything newer, even if it had better gears. Early disc brakes suck, and it'd have 26 spline axles. Your 89 probably has a 9 bolt, which some would consider a much better rear to start with.

And if the 82 has a limited slip, it's probably the dreaded Gov-Lock. All in all not a rear, I'd chose.

Gov-locks were only put in trucks from the factory

save up and get a good aftermarket rear end. You won't regret it. I put enough money into one of my ten bolts that by the time i got it running correctly I could have bought a complete nine inch.

My 82-85 F-Body Parts and Illustration Cat. shows it. A search will provide several pages of info on the "Gov lock."
