Pulling a 700R4 without the TC=EPIC FAIL!

Just thought i'd share my unfortunate-ness of the night. Figured I could pull my auto transmission without the torque converter, but i was very wrong. I've twisted, turned, raised and lowered the transmission and looks like the bellhousing keeps getting hung up on the firewall. So this sucks.

you need to get a ratchet strap and pull the motor forward some to allow clearence, it will come out you just have to get the angle right

when you pull the trans off the motor it tends to lean backwards(especially if the mounts are worn) thus making it harder to get the tranny over the converter

I'm just gonna pull the TC. I've done this many many times and it's always been a breeze for me, just thought this would be easier but nope. No biggie, just won't do it again!

Well, at least you won't lose any more sleep over whether or not it can be done?

Got it pulled guys. Took all of 20 minutes to unbolt it from the flexplate, unhook the lines and get it on the ground. The seals were primarily why I was pulling it. So no worries there.

Re: Pulling a 700R4 without the TC=EPIC FAIL!

What exactly was or would have been the benefit of not unbolting the TC? Because i'm curious to know how you thought you were going to get the trans back in without installing the TC first completely into the pump. Your lucky that you got into that bind while taking it out instead of putting back in. Because if you started the car up with the TC not engaged into the trans pump you would have had some REAL problems.
