Re: which gears to get
3.23 is MUCH better than what you have now. 3.73 is too much for a TBI motor with stock heads; you end up with basically the "tractor motor" thing, the problem where it leaves HARD but can't even keep up with traffic let alone pass anybody on the freeway, the fun is all over with before you hit 5 mph. 3.42 is about as far as you want to go.

Re: which gears to get
I totally agree that 3.42 is the way to go.I went from 2.73 to 3.42 and upgraded to 28 spline axles and Eaton posi. Totally different feel. Pulls hard but is decent on the free way with the 700r4 OD. If you don't have a posi. I strongly recommend a Eaton posi. and LPW support cover while your in there.

Re: which gears to get
I have the same car same engine and transmission I installed and eaton posi and 3.73 gears and I have noticed a good difference. And if you plan on doing an engine swap or upgrading your engine I would go with the 3.73 gears Oh and Im gona send you a PM .

Re: which gears to get
either place is fine.
I'd recommend that you skip building your own and pick up a gently used 4th gen rear end with 3.23s or 3.42s and disk brakes. Will be cheaper, just as strong, and opens the door to 4th gen wheels.
