Most would say that the Gov Lock isn't worth the effort/money. big gear head advises the Eaton.

they are commonly called grenade locs, leave them alone....get a modern type eaton, auburn, detroit tru-trac or if you're lucky enough to find an SLP zexel torsen take out like i did.

Yeah, leave them alone. They are fine in truck or non-performance applications. When you put some power into them the ratcheting mechanisim strips or breaks. I also discovered that when driven into a corner hard, it will open up and one wheel peel. Right about the time the vehicle straitens up it locks and the rear becomes loose fast!

The Gov Lock is fine in a stock truck. They don't hold up too well in a performance car. The eaton Posi is the best choice for a street/strip car. The Torsen would probably be better for auto cross or road racing.

In 2002, SLP did "some special edition" packages with Trans Ams/Camaros and part of that package was zexel torsen posi upgrade, along with forged 28 spline axles, 4.10 gears and a stud girdle cover for the rear. The rest of the package included suspension tweaks and engine mods. I remember in 2004, i was on ebay and saw one those camaros wrecked and was being parted out, i took the torsen posi and the aluminum driveshaft from it.....both are still taking wretched (nitrous soon to be twin turbo) abuse in my car right now 6yrs later!
