What does this do exactly A "JET 700 R-4 Lockup Delay Module"

Does this make it so when you are going really slow. Say in a neighbor hood your car doesn't Go into 1st gear it stays in 2nd or 3rd? thats what I want. I dont like how much my car is going from 1st to 2nd when I am going so slow. I wish It would just stay in 2nd gear. My gear ratio is stock 2.73. I dont know if thats got anything to do with it.

"The JET 700 R-4 Lockup Delay Module prevents converter lockup until 4th gear, eliminating unwanted converter locking and unlocking in 2nd and 3rd gear. Reduces wear on converter clutch and prevents engine lugging due to premature lockup. Simple, plug in installation."

it does exactly what you quotes, it stops the lockup from engaging in the lower gears. That's not the same as a 1-2 or 2-3 shift. What you think may be an upshift may very well be the lockup engaging. Try this, when it does it, keep your foot on the throttle like you had it and then w/ the other foot lightly tap the brake pedal, only enough to engage the brake lights, no need to actually brake. Check the tacho, the rpms will climb about 400 rpm instantly when the lockup disengages.

You know what. Now that I think about it. You are right. Thats what is happening. Its just the lock up engaging and disengaging. I think I am going to install this module and see what happens. I can always take it out if I don't like it. Will it hurt my performance at all? There's little to go around and I need all I can get.

Yes it will def hurt 0-60 and 1/4 times....they built the cars with that first gear for a reason afterall, especially with a 305 tbi...if it is actually a tbi and not a tpi, then its going to hurt...also I think overtime it might wear out 2nd gear faster than normal....

Well, I might be wrong, it might not be THAT bad, but honestly, I don't see the purpose or benefit in it, esp not in a stock car, now maybe if you had an engine built to hell and the low ratio of first gear was all but useless it might help, but otherwise, just don't see it being beneficial in any way, but rather detrimental...

It will not hurt your 0-60, lockup will only engage in low throttle light cruise conditions

Re: What does this do exactly A "JET 700 R-4 Lockup Delay Module"

As far as I know, the transmission only locks in 3rd and 4th gears stock. And rarely in 3rd at that. I suspect the module changes the lockup speed from 25 mph (305's and smaller engines) to 40 mph (350's). This is what most aftermarket chips do.
