T5 making noise when clutch is engaged
T5 making noise when clutch is engaged
Hey guys i have a 86 z28 with an lt1 backed up by a t5 well the car was running good And then suddenly it started mAking clunk noise at idle from the throwout bearing today i dropped the trAns noticed the throw out bearing was pushed in too much into the fork so i pushed it and aligned it and put it all back together when cranked it it seemed fixed till the car idled that it started again... What could this be? I remember after wards that the pilot bushing looked wasted on one side (right side) but when came time to build it back together i forgot to double check and change it... Could it be this?
Thanks ahead!

Re: T5 making noise when clutch is engaged
a bad pilot brg will cause vibration, but has nothing to do with the t.o.b. the throw out brg rides on the input shaft brg collar, and can't go anywhere 'cept for and aft. if the tabs on the back of the cluch fork are broken, "maybe" the fork slid off its pivot, but I doubt it.(are you sure you didn't just knock it off during disassembly?) Usually, noises generated by pushing in the clutch are worn t.o.b's. good luck. (If you can visually see your pilot brg is worn, you should also replace it, for sanities sake.) just saw the post date, and guess i'm a little late. hope the job went well.
