Keeping the 700R4 for LT1, Stall upgrade & Cooling Q's

Aight So I plan to keep my 700R4. I plan to keep it easy with the LT1 but I figured with just basic bolt ons it should hold fine since I see L98s holding fine but still no promises on not giving it hell once in a while.

So I figured that replacing the stock TC would be a good idea while I am doing the LT1 swap. If I recall the stock TC is what, 1750rpm? What would be a decent stall for basically a bolt-on LT1 with maybe a cam swap later down the road? I was thinking 2500~. The guy who sold me the LT1 had a Vigilante 3100 TC from the built 4L60E for $400 and I recall seeing a pan for sale for a 4L60E as well, are these pieces compatible? I figured the pan will since Jegs/Summit puts them both as compatible. What about the TC? I have 3.27 gears at the moment.

Also how good is the stock Trans cooling system? I want to keep the 700R4 healthy as long as I can. It probably does have the stock mileage of the car, 154k.

Also what is the best bang for the buck pan? I was looking at the TCI 378000 pan but a bit pricey, B&M has a chrome one for $50 but the quote, you get what you pay for comes to mind.

It will never hurt to add an aftermarket cooling system for your trans. The cooler the fluid, the better. Your TC suggestions need to be given to you by the TC manufacturer. But, for a stock configuration with minor bolt ons, I would say an 1800-2200 stall would be just fine. 3100 is way too much and you will hate it. Don't waste your money on a chrome pan. If you can't afford one right now, save your money. The aftermarket pans are engineered to give the fluid more cooling and come with a built in drain plug. Chrome/steel pans will do nothing more than get dirty and scratched and hold that much more heat in the fluid.
