Ok so I just bought a T56 transmission today for 900, came with tranny aluminum flywheel, new clutch, new slave clyinder and bellhousing. This is for my future swap when i get a 350.

Ok so now to the point. I have basically 2 questions right now, What are the best rear end gears for a 6 speed tranny. Gears that will get me off the line quick for the occasional drag strip, but also put me at a low RPM on the highway. Im thinking either 3.73 or 4.11 i dotn really know what would be better for what i want.

Next question, Will the t56 transmission bolt right in? My car is already has a manual transmission (t5) so I already have the pedals.

Right now my car is a base model V8 stock 305 TBI with a WC T5. I believe I have a 3.08 borg warner rear end posi i think.

Seems like most of the ls/lt t56 camaros are running 4.11's. When I get a t56, that is what I am going to go with.

 

If you have a high reving engine go 4.10's but if your sticking with TPI 3.70's are nice or even if you want a good highway cruise speed also. I Ran both gears at one time.

Everything should bolt in fine just have to mod your tranny tunnel some and do something for the clutch pedal stud for the master cylinder rod eye.

 

Right now its TBI and im just holding onto this transmission till i get a 350, witch i will probably go Carb. It just seemed like such a good deal for that transmission. So 4.11 are a good combo with the 6 speed huh? Would the gears just fit right into the rear end?

 

You did get a good deal I'll give you that.

I thought 4.10 worked ok made first gear more pleasurable since the t-56 has kind of a high first gear ratio 2.66, at highway cruise think I was doing 2k RPM's at 60mph in 6th.

For your rear I would guess it would work but maybe a more knowledgeable person on the 10 bolt would better answer your question.

 

Ok what about the 7.5inch and 8.5 inch ring pinion w/e it is? would the 8.5 fit right into my rear end?

 

no, the 8.5 will not work.

 

I've got 3.73's in mine and I have been thinking of upgrading to 4.11's. Either one of these will be great for the T56.

 

I have the 3:45's in mine. They work great with the T56. I think a 3.70 would be maybe a little better but probably not worth the change. On a TPI I thik the 4:10 would be too deep.

 

I have 373 and you can real loaf down the highway 1800rpm at 70 , was getting 28 mpg at 65mph , with 383 400hp. My car is slow in the 1/8 but really comes on on the big end . I believe 411 will be to deep if your car is more street then strip . I am going with a 391 . Google gear calculator and you can play around .(I have a 12 bolt rear , don't go below 373 with ten bolt rear pinion head to small)
Any one know the 6th gear ratio of t56 ?

 

I just have the lame stock ones in mine (3.73) and they suck.

4.11 would be much better.

 

Hay sofa U know the 6th gear ratio for the t56 I am in the process of changing my gears now ,and am leaning toward 391 . Would have to agree the 373 do suck with t56 , but gas is going up up up !!!

 

I believe its 0.62.

It's .50 for 6th and .25 for 5th (.75) however you look at it.
