Shift problems at WOT.

I had a local transmission shop rebuild my 700R4, they installed a transgo shift kit. At part throttle the transmission shifts fine with nice solid gear changes between 1-2 and 2-3. However when i punch it, WOT, shifting drags randomly between 1-2 and 2-3, the 1-2 drag is long and dramatic, the 2-3 drag less so. The dragging seems to reduce as the car warms up.

Also the shift linkage is right at the rear of the oval slider, if i move it forward the transmission wont go into park.

I adjusted the TV cable as per instructions, I thought this had cleared it up, but it returned the following day.

Any suggestions?

Re: Shift problems at WOT.

Fixed it!

The problem.. faulty instructions..

I used the ones from here.. http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Inst...ble_adjust.htm

And checked my service manual, which was wrong too, it said to 'Rotate the throttle lever (831) to its "full travel position"'..

They are not correct, because they assume that rotating the throttle under the hood, moves the throttle to the same position as depressing the accelerator, it doesn't. At least not on my car, (or any other cable throttle car i've ever owned)

The correct way to adjust should be

1) with the throttle closed, press the adjust tab in.
2) push slider into TV cable housing, as far as it will go.
3) release adjustment tab
4) get in car and firmly depress the accelerator, listen out for clicking
5) check the slider, to see how far it came out, should be less than before.
6) make a mental note to ones self, not to screw around and open the throttle to far under the hood, when cleaning the IAC, as it changes your shift points and burns out your tranny.

After seeing this, it does make me wonder how many tranny shops have rebuilt perfectly serviceable transmissions because of a badly set/broken adjuster on a TV cable?

If others agree, I think this should be a sticky for this forum, as it can hose your transmission if not done correctly, and it fixs a bunch of shifting problems.
