Looking for manual swap threads with pics
I kno i saw them on here. I searched and searched and could not locate any. Im doing a manual trans swap and wanted some info/pictures of the clutch hydraulic setup and pedals as to how all that was going to fit in. I didnt have the luxury of taking the manual trans out and seeing how it all worked together.

I just got done swapping my stuff around. If you need pics of my completed setup I can do that for you. I can also recall everything I had to modify, cut, find, or adjust so let me know.

Re: Looking for manual swap threads with pics
The big question areas that i have are the hydraulics and pedals. It might be one of those things that i have to get in there to see and figure it out but im just not sure how everything hooks up since i didnt have the luxury of taking the donor car apart. Im talking about where everything mounts up and how. I think i need to put a want ad up on here looking for the slave cylinder bracket as well as bolts such as the ones to attach the master cylinder of the clutch system and that u bolt that everyone talks about.

My 83 was different because 83 still had the old Z-bar so I had to use the pedals to line up the holes and I had a plug for the rod that went through the firewall that wasnt quite in the right spot. The way I made the hole for the master was use part of an old fire wall as a marker and a hole saw. I made two holes and then connected them with my air saw. As long as your pedals have the extention supports for the clutch master it sould be easy to locate the spots to drill the mounting U-bolt holes.
If you want, take a picture of everything you have and I can tell you what you dont have or what you will need. I can also take some pics of my installed setup so you can have an idea of what the finished product should look like.

Re: Looking for manual swap threads with pics
Thanks everyone for the replies and the pictures. I have not started the swap yet since im doing an engine swap at the same time as going from auto to stick. I did however take some pictures of everything that i have for the swap so you can let me know what im missing. I think its mainly hardware to bolt everything together. Here are the pictures.

Hydraulics

LS1 Aluminum driveshaft

Clutch, flywheel, pressure plate (heavy duty oem)

Bellhousing

Pedal assembly

And just to be that guy...the TKO 500.
I think im missing a U bolt to that goes through the firewall as well as some bolts and a plate to mount the slave to the bellhousing. Let me know though and if anyone has these parts too?

Re: Looking for manual swap threads with pics
Yes you are missing those 2 things.
You don't really "need" the U-bolt; 2 regular bolts will work fine, I suspect the factory used the U-bolt so that one person could assemble it by themself in whatever the takt time on the production line was (32 seconds or something kind of like that) using lock nuts. Use 2 8mm bolts with the flange on the head, you can get them hanging on cards at AZ and other such places. Get slightly long ones (maybe 35mm), and double-nut them to keep th enuts from backing off without having to tighten them to more than about 20-25 ft-lbs. Don't over-tighten them or you may damaage the master cyl.
THe bolts that hold the slave cyl on are suposed to screw into welded nuts on a heat shield piece. IIRC they're also 8mm but I could be wrong. Same type as the other ought to work fine.
I see you have those 2 braces attached to the pedals; that's GOOD. Without those, the firewall will bend when you push the clutch, from trying to punch the master cyl out. The lower end of them goes under the master cyl nuts.
Don't forget to put a pilot bearing or bushing in your crank. Also don't forget that the little spring feature of the clutch fork, goes INSIDE the groove of the throwout bearing; it DOES NOT "clip" onto the lip of the bearing.

Re: Looking for manual swap threads with pics
Thanks for the reply. I think the only thing that i really should be looking for then is the heat shield. I have headers so there is going to be a good amount of heat in that general area. Ill post in the wanted section and see if anyone has one.
Also, where does the master cylinder bolt to? I kno there is a mark for cutting the hole for the part that attaches to the pedals but the master sits above all that and im not sure where. Anyone got a picture or did i miss it in all these swap threads?

Re: Looking for manual swap threads with pics
the master is the part that bolts to the pedals., it goes through a oval hole i te firewall, and has 2 bolts that hold it to the firewall.
if you mean the reservoir, that bolts to a bracket that bolts onto the brake booster using the same 2 bolts that hole the brake master onto the booster.
I just screwed it to the firewall above and behind the booster, since i didnt have, or know of, the bracket when i did my conversion.

Steve, what are you using for the TKO adapter plate to the t-5 bellhousing? Got any pics?
