700r4 torque convertor questions

700r4 torque convertor questions

i was just wondering on what torque convertor to get i have 700r4 that was computer controlled till i ripped the ecm out of it and switched to carb and i was gunna swithch it to lock up on its own but i want a higher stall torque convertor but dont no what to go with a lock up style or non lockup cuz i still want it to lock up in fourth gear thanks hope you guys can shed some light on this for me

You answered your own question. If you want a converter to lock up, you have to run a lockup converter.

yea i kinda understand that but will it still lockup in fourth gear only? cuz i want a 3000 stall torque convertor and i want it to lock up in fourth gear only like it used to when it was tpi controlled

you wil have to install a manual switch in it if the internal wiring for the lock up is still the computer controled one

or you can get a vacuum switch to control the converter. Just do a search for it....lots of info

thanks for your help and would i want it to lockup iun 2,3 gears and the diagram you gave me i can just use the stock wiring and just rewire the outside wiring to lock it up right?

you can also buy the bm lockup controller thing, you adjust when you want it to lockup
