410 gears and a six speed
410 gears and a six speed
I got a 93 Z28 with the T56 and ive been playin with the idea of swappin the stock diff gears for 410 gears. Just curious if anyone has done it with the T56 in a 93 z. Wonderin how it will effect drivability with the six speed-torque gain, top speed, etc.
Any info would be great.

Theres a calculation formula that you can do to find out your speed at a given RPM, you just have to plug in to tire dimensions and gear ratios.
The T56 has a .50 sixth gear
You want to put 4.10 gears in the back
Just take the tire dimensions
And google it to find a calculator

4.10s are the way to go with the T56. Very popular topic over on 'tech.

You have two overdrive gears, you can go shorter (numerically higher) than 4.10 if you want. I know a guy with 4.56 gears in his LS1 Trans Am 6 speed stock other than a catback and intake the thing f*ckin hauls!
Re: 410 gears and a six speed
Thanks for the info, i wasnt sure if 410s would be too low or not i had a feeling they wouldnt be since i got a 6 speed, now i just gotta find time at the shop to put them in.

Re: 410 gears and a six speed
I was thinking about this exact subject. I wrote an excel program to help me figure out if 4.11's were too much for a street driven T-56. A guy at work just told me today that 3.73 is the most you should go on the street, but I disagree. If I can figure out how to attach excel files here, I'll do it. You can plug in your tire size, gear ratio and it'll tell you how fast you'd be going certain RPM.

Re: 410 gears and a six speed
The '93 sixth gear is not .50; it's .62.
There are two '93 T56 ratios.
If it's the 2.9x first gear trans., 3.73 gears are a very good choice.
If it's the 3.3x first gear trans., 3.90 gears and a 94-97 box is a very good choice.

Re: 410 gears and a six speed
Another quick question i have been wondering about since i bought my 93 Z, has anyone seen alot of 93 maros with the 6 speed, i havent so it leads me to think it might be kinda rare. i didnt even know you could get a T56 in a 93 maro. I know its carried over from the vette of the a couple previous years.
