Re: rear end question
There might be identifying numbers on the front of the pass side axle tube - but even then, there's no guarantee that what it says is what's still in there.
THE ONLY way to know for sure, is to pop the cover off and count teeth.

Re: rear end question
There is plenty of info on stock rear ends - but you have to consider ... not all rears are posi and there could be 3-4 different gearing setups for any one year of car. Doesn't matter if it was a V6 or a V8, manual or auto - the rear could be one of several different gearing possibilities.

Re: rear end question
OK - if that answer makes you happy. But still might not be accurate.
From Camarowiki: "M6 cars offered with either 3.23 or 2.73 rear end ratios due to the 2 different 6 speeds offered in that year."
Now - that mentions manual 6 speed cars, 2 different rear gear options. Doesn't state posi or not, and does not give any info for the automatic tranny cars on that site.
AND - none of this takes into account that X number of people owned that rear end in the last 18 years before you - 18 years is a long time for anyone to have a chance to change the rear gearing - folks do it everyday, otherwise Randy's, Richmond, Eaton, etc. wouldn't be in business!
Again I say (and 100% of TGO members will agree with me on this) ... THE ONLY way to know for sure is to pull the cover and look if you REALLY want to know what's in there.
Not trying to be a jerk here - but assumptions get you nowhere quick.
