Re: starter craked!!
disconnect the battery first!
3 bolts, and some wires. Its a bit tight up in there with the exhaust and all, but it will come out.

Re: starter craked!!
I have replaced a few starters, and none have required any shims. Of course make sure the car is properly lifted up with jackstands, don't trust your life with a jack.
1. Disconnect one battery post
2. Remove large nut holding main power wire(s)
3. Remove small nut holding smaller wire(s)
4. Remove small nut holding the rear of the starter in (most cars are missing this mount, I guess when the starter goes out, people remove this mount and don't re-install it)
5. Loosen both bolts that hold the starter to the block (One shorter than the other)
6. Once they're both loose, totally unbolt one and slowly unbolt the other while holding the starter with your other hand so it doesnt fall on you (They're HEAVY)
7. Wiggle the starter out around the A-arm and y-pipe, and it will come out pretty easily
8. Now do the reverse of these instructions and follow the starter shimming instructions that are included with your new starter if it needs to be shimmed.
This is a 20-30 minute job depending on how quickly you move, I recommend taking your time so you dont end up ripping the wires out or losing any bolts/nuts.
