700R4 Issue

First start up let it idle for a minute, rpms at 1500, shift from P to R or P to D, get a hard pound from the car. Honestly it shook the whole car thats how hard it was. It happens alot, sometimes its smoother, sometimes its non-existent but mainly it'll happen alot and i'll feel the hard knock, its not smooth like most people say the 700r4 should shift.

Wanting to know if anyone else has had the same problem and how you fixed it.

I bought a new tranny mount, hoping to install it soon and see how far that gets me, but I just don't know what it is.

Re: 700R4 Issue

1500 park idle is kinda high to me
My drive idle is 650 carbed and park is about 800
Your high idle is slamming the drivetrain
Could be worn u-joints or the trans internals are wearing but don't fear, there is always some trans slop
Try bringing your idle down and have your u-joints checked

sorry i should re-phrase that, my idle is normally 650-750 but morning starts thats where i let it sit and drive to work and let it idle drive me. but mainly even at 650-750 it'll still give a kick. I'll check the u-joints

Re: 700R4 Issue

i had the same issues before. damn thing would idle high for too long then it would come down to 650ish. sometimes just didnt have the time to wait and had to let it hit. never figured it out tho. trans was a rebuilt unit before i got it. i ended up changing the driveshaft anyway and the hit wasnt so hard afterward. hope yah find it.

Re: 700R4 Issue

replaced the tranny mount. while unbolting the tranny mount it fell off, looked at it, the rubber was split in half. that solves i think half the problem, the banging doesnt happen now when i give it gas like it did before. but i still get a kick from shifting gears. i noticed the torque arm mount is cracked to hell so thats next and hoping for the best. is the dealership the only option or can i get it online?

Re: 700R4 Issue

Yea the guy before me had a shift kit on it so it would shift at a higher rpm at WOT but it jacked up the trans so I had to get it rebuilt

Are you having trouble with a high idle when it should be at about 700 ish? It sounds like a tranny mount to me. Easy fix. If you are having trouble with the idle, you might have an IAC issue.
